Super Humourless
Bit slow on posting so far.
We're watched "The Incredibles" already which, in retrospect, should have been one of the last ones we watched, as it makes light of a lot of superhero stereotypes.
Now we're watching a random episode from the, uh, interesting show "The Flash" from 1990. It's a lot like "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" except the special effects are firmly planted in the 80's and, more importantly, it's almost completely lacking the sense of humour "Lois and Clark" had. When your subject matter is people running around in underwear and tights, you really have to have a sense of humour.
Almost all the best superhero movies have a good sense of humour: See Batman, Spider-man, X-Men, etc. Of course, movies like Batman Begins and (possibly) Superman Returns show that when irony died in indie music, it also started dying out in the rest of pop culture. Which is fine when it works, but I think the only reason it can work now is because the special effects have reached a level where you don't feel like giggling to yourself every time you see Johnny Fabulous do some amazing feat.
Kinda amusing that my post on humour was humourless and a bit boring, hey?
